2025 is the final year of China's 14th Five Year Plan, and policy support for pumped storage energy continues to increase. According to the "Medium - and Long Term Development Plan for Pumped Storage (2021-2035)", by 2025, the installed capacity of pumped storage in China will reach over 62 million kilowatts.

From a distribution perspective, by 2025, the project will enter a period of concentrated production, showing a trend of "blooming everywhere". Projects are spread across multiple provinces, such as Anhui, Fujian, Gansu, Hunan, Xinjiang, Chongqing, etc., with particular emphasis on Hebei, Zhejiang, Guangdong and other regions. With the deepening of the national energy strategy, the demand for pumped storage power station construction in the central and western regions is gradually increasing.

In the long run, in order to achieve the goal of carbon neutrality, China needs to continue to increase its efforts in developing new energy to meet the demand for incremental electricity after reaching the carbon peak in 2030. According to the estimated development scale of 3 billion kilowatts and 3.8 billion kilowatts of new energy in 2035, the total demand for pumped storage and new energy storage in China is expected to be about 600 million kilowatts (3.6 billion kilowatt hours) and 750 million kilowatts (4.5 billion kilowatt hours) by 2035.

Without energy storage, there is no glory. In order to develop new energy on a large scale and economically efficiently in the future, fundamentally solve the country's energy security problems, and build a clean, low-carbon, safe and efficient new energy system, large-scale pumped storage projects must also be built first.
